The Library Sofa was created specifically to accommodate a solution for lovers of collecting, reading, and relaxing. The sofa functions as a bookshelf, daybed, and storage to conserve precious space. The result is an angular couch with a built in armrest/desk and multiple shelves, using a flat pack system to accommodate transport and moves.
The building process began with inspiration from studying built-in furniture of California Modernists, combining their natural approach of material and utilitarianism with a Donald Judd-esque lens of angularity and simplicity.
Renders and shop drawings were made to prep for building. Pieces were both CNC milled for accuracy in slotted pieces as well as hand-cut and hand-finished.
A manual was also created to aid users in identifying and assembling pieces.
